Azul Van Peborgh trabaja principalmente con óleo pastel “que es una forma de acercarme a un lugar entre la pintura y el dibujo” según define la artista. En sus pinturas, Azul busca desorganizar el lenguaje para llegar a otro lenguaje posible. “Para mí, la pintura es como escribir una carta” explica. “Yo me imagino las líneas dentro de una carta que de repente se desarman y se desorganizan para formar una imagen abstracta de líneas”.
Su primera aproximación al arte fue a los seis años cuando asistía a un taller de pintura y luego a los diez años a un taller de escultura.
Estudió Artes Visuales en Inglaterra del 2016 al 2020. Allí fundó el colectivo de arte Young Modulus con el cual participó de diferentes exposiciones. En 2020 regresó a Argentina y en 2021 ganó la Beca Creación del Fondo Nacional de las Artes y quedó seleccionada para la Bienal de Arte Joven 2022, en el Centro Cultural Recoleta. En los últimos años fue seleccionada para el Premio Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales y el Premio 8M, Centro Cultural Kirchner.
En el camino de encontrar su espacio en el mundo del arte, Azul se cruzó con el óleo pastel y quiso llevar el material al límite y explorarlo en todas sus aplicaciones. “Mi mayor desafío fue encontrar un gesto que se sienta genuino y lo suficientemente desafiante como para poder continuar con esa técnica y sorprenderme” detalla.
Azul explica que en sus obras de arte explora el tiempo y el movimiento, la escritura y la memoria, y en muchas ocasiones aparece la figura del agua y todo lo que tiene que ver con el mundo acuático, como grandes temas.
La literatura juega un rol fundamental en las obras de arte de Azul Van Peborgh, quien extrae versos de poemas y libros, y los suspende en la pintura para que las palabras se conecten con sus líneas.
También realiza obras en cerámica donde busca llevar a un plano tridimensional esos dibujos que suceden en el plano del papel, con el afán de imitar las texturas que deja el óleo pastel. Al mismo tiempo, Azul experimenta con el pastel en diferentes superficies como neoprene y el lienzo crudo. “En la pintura y la cerámica puedo explorar y materializar todas las ideas y pensamientos que me obsesionan y me atormentan” detalla Azul.
“Mi herramienta de trabajo es una línea de tres centímetros que repito infinitamente para la creación de estos territorios abstractos, imaginarios, que no se sabe muy bien dónde son o en qué tiempo están”
Esa línea de tres centímetros que se repite genera una trama, que se asemeja tal vez a un bordado textil.
La textura es una gran protagonista en su obra, y un lugar al que Azul le interesa explorar y dejar con eso un mensaje. Que la textura genere una intriga que atraiga a esos territorios de ficción que compone.
En su trabajo, Azul confiesa ser muy observadora de su pintura y de pensar antes de dibujar. Sus pinturas comienzan con un trazo y un color y ese proceso, línea por línea, la va llevando a finalizar la pintura.
